The genus Liparis is one of the greatest genus of orchids. In Europea there is only a single species, from other northern places of world few more, but the majority of species grows in tropics. These plants are very rarely seen in cultivation, at least in Finland, as they have small flowers. 

There are not that showy plants in this genus, but some frost-hardy species are guite pretty with theyre almost black flowers. L. viridiflora is the easiest species to get to wondow-culture. It has lot of small flowers shaped like tiny flowers of usual Liparis loeselii

These plants have pseudobulbs as do most of the tropical orchids. 

Previously Liparis was included in genus Malaxis or Microstylis
