These plants are commonly found in north America, where there are several
species which resample our G. repens. Most of the species are from
tropics. They are larger and handsome plants, althought they hae small
flowers. G. macrophylla, endemic to Madeira is large species and
and well protected, as it is very rare. Besides the twwo species mentioned
there are no other species in Europe.
The genus is guite close to Spiranthes, genus which can be found
as far north as Sweden and Denmark and also tropical Ludisia is
close relative of Goodyeras.
